Our Family Farm

Cae Main Shepherd’s Hut is situated on our family run farm, Nant Ucha. We are a Welsh speaking family so don’t be shy … embrace the opportunity to ‘siarad Cymraeg’ if you’re learning Welsh! Croeso! A warm welcome awaits you here.

Nant Ucha

Nant Ucha is entering its fifth generation as a traditional beef and sheep run family farm. Farmers have had to adapt and change their ways over the years and with the many challenges continuously facing the farming community we hope that our glamping enterprise will support and sustain our future. There are thousands of small family farms across the UK and I personally feel that the family farm as a unit forms the back bone of our rural communities, our rural economy, and here in Wales our Welsh language and culture.

Glamping at Cae Main

Your Shepherds Hut is set in its own glamping paddock within Cae Main field which is grazed by sheep and lambs most of the year. In Summer, we let the grass grow to make small hay bales and round silage bales – food for the sheep and cattle over the Winter months when the grass stops growing.

Sustainability

As a farming family, reusing, recycling and a ‘make do and mend’ approach has always come second nature to us. We are careful too about our hedge cutting and view a fuller hedge as a source of shelter for our animals during winter as well as a means of protecting natural micro habitats. The firewood we provide you and use ourselves in the farmhouse is sustainably sourced from the farm in the form of wind fallen branches and trees.

Our Shepherds Hut and Amenity Hut have been furnished with many up-cycled household items. We were adamant to source as much as we could second-hand or reclaimed when we begun this project to be more environmentally friendly. Reusing and recycling items rather sending to landfill is good for the environment and is very important to us. We kindly ask you to recycle during your stay here. Recycling facilities are located in the bin store near the parking area.

Supporting Local Businesses

We are passionate too about supporting our small local businesses and will source as much as we can from our local independent retailers: ironmongers, paint shop, gift shops, artisan / craft producers and small village shops. We consciously limit purchases from larger chains and online stores, supporting the local economy and helping to reduce the carbon footprint.

Local Village Shops

Your local village shops during your stay are Bryneglwys Village Shop, LL21 9LN – 01490 450246 and Llandegla Community Shop & Cafe, LL11 3AW – 01978 790604. Why not pop over to say hello. We also hope you will enjoy eating out during your stay in the Vale of Clwyd.
